An unprecedented global "supersociety" may be emerging -- in spite of resource depletion, pollution and conflict that seem to be driving us to dystopia.
This surprisingly positive prospect is the fruition of key developments that are now germinating and sending out their first tentative shoots. They all engage a vastly underutilized resource: the best that is in people.
Among these highly-human developments, seven of the most imminent and notable are these:
These, only now being defined and framed, might be called hyperjobs, meta-jobs, ultra-jobs, post-information-age jobs, or no jobs.Continue

Within a few short years we could see an energy explosion that changes everything. It promises to come years to decades sooner than conventional (hot) nuclear fusion. And it could be a lot cheaper, more scalable, and more transformative.
(But keep it to yourself. Most media people are.)
Back in 2009, CBS News's 60 Minutes boldly announced: "Cold Fusion Is Hot Again." Great news, one would think, because if real, the technology could end carbon pollution, lower the cost of everything, and revitalize whole cultures.
But the news failed to catch fire in the general media. Why? (More on this later.)

A whole new Internet seems to be forming. It's the Internet of Money, which promises to transform everything economic, just as the existing Internet has with communications.
When the Internet of Money is mature, finance, commerce, employment, and society may be streamlined, quickened and humanized in revolutionary ways.
Bitcoin, the controversial cyber currency, may or may not be the basis of it. No matter. The cat is out of the bag. Thanks to Bitcoin's rocket ride, we now know that a global digital currency can work, and that people want it.

Alternatively, water could be brought to where California is, now that the Colorado River isn't enough.
The obvious way is to tap the nearby Pacific -- through desalinization.
Stumbling block: we'd need a really cheap energy source.
Fortunately, there's a California start-up close to commercializing low-energy nuclear reaction (LENR) technology, formerly known as cold fusion. How about pumping a few billion in to this and related efforts? Really cheap compared to the trillions, easily, it would take to dig up the whole state and cart it…Continue

So says Richard W. Samson, author of the employment report, “Highly-Human Jobs: The New Work That Technology Can't Take Over.”
Inspired by an October 16 article in the New York Times, "Devices Go Nose to Nose With Bomb-Sniffing Dogs," Samson speculates that canine unemployment, like the human kind, could reach dire levels in coming years thanks to high-tech innovations.
"Dog workers may be facing the same job-usurping pattern we are," he suggests. "If a gadget with titanium nanotubes can smell explosives better and cheaper than Fido, who need Fido? But bomb-sniffer isn't the only canine career in jeopardy."
With advances in artificial vision, "What about the jobs of seeing-eye dogs?"…Continue
