How do we make democratic engagement sexier? Here are my thoughts. First, look beyond the approaches that are NOT sexy:

Asking for money (often necessary, but overdone and an invitation for someone ELSE to engage in your place, bought by your dollars.
Anything that promises a distant goal (alone),
Anything that promises immediate reward (alone).

The SEXY approaches link immediate reward tied to the prospect of noble goals and idealistic visions. An example would be asking for creative ideas for saving on gas (and air pollution) while also getting to everywhere you need to go. Creative thinking is fun (immediate reward) and the gas-saving of course ties in to desirable long-term goals.... Thousands of variations on the principle are possible.
